Baseball glossary

One of nine units of a game, split into a top and bottom half; each half ends after three outs.

الشوط. الماتش 9 أشواط، وكل شوط نصين: واحد للزائر وواحد لصاحب الأرض. النص بيخلص بـ 3 آوت.

A batter's turn that ends in a hit or an out (walks and sacrifices don't count).

دور اللاعب في الضرب اللي بيخلص بضربة أو آوت. الـwalk والتضحية مش بتتحسب.

Any complete trip to the plate, including walks and hit-by-pitch.

أي وقفة كاملة قدام الرامي، وبتشمل الـwalk والضرب بالكورة كمان.

A pitch in the zone, a swing-and-miss, or a foul under two strikes. Three is an out.

كورة عدّت في منطقة السترايك، أو اللاعب خبط في الهوا، أو ضربها فاول. 3 سترايك = آوت.

A pitch outside the zone the batter doesn't swing at. Four is a walk.

كورة برّه المنطقة واللاعب ماخبطش عليها. 4 بولز = walk.

The box over the plate from the knees to the torso's midpoint, plate-wide.

الصندوق الوهمي فوق الهوم، من تحت الركبة لنص الجسم، بعرض الهوم.

Current balls-strikes, balls first (2-1 = two balls, one strike). 3-2 is a full count.

عدّاد البولز والسترايك، البولز الأول (2-1 = بولين وسترايك). 3-2 اسمه full count.

Four balls; the batter is awarded first base for free.

اللاعب ياخد 4 بولز فياخد القاعدة الأولى ببلاش.

Three strikes; the batter is out.

تلات سترايك واللاعب يطلع آوت.

A retired batter or runner. Three end a half-inning; 27 in a game.

خروج الضارب أو الجرّاي. 3 بيخلّصوا نص الشوط، والفريق عنده 27 آوت.

Scored when a player touches all four bases in order. Most runs wins.

النقطة. لما لاعب يلف على القواعد الأربعة بالترتيب ويرجع للهوم.

A batted ball outside the foul lines; a strike unless under two strikes.

كورة اتضربت برّه خطوط الفاول. بتتحسب سترايك إلا لو عندك سترايكين.

A runner advances a base while the pitch is thrown.

الجرّاي يجري للقاعدة اللي بعدها أثناء رمي الكورة، ويدخل قبل ما توصل.

A winning run scored by the home team in its last at-bat; the game ends instantly.

الفريق صاحب الأرض يسجل نقطة الفوز في آخر ضربة، والماتش يخلص علطول.

Innings played to break a tie after the ninth.

أشواط إضافية بتتلعب لو التعادل مستمر بعد الشوط التاسع.

A run scored as a direct result of the batter's action.

النقطة اللي بتتسجل بسبب ضربة الضارب نفسه.

A hit on which the batter reaches first base.

ضربة اللاعب يوصل بيها للقاعدة الأولى.

A hit that puts the batter on second base.

ضربة توصّل اللاعب للقاعدة التانية.

A hit that puts the batter on third base; very rare.

ضربة توصّله للقاعدة التالتة، ومن أندر الضربات.

A ball hit over the fence in fair territory; batter and runners all score.

الكورة تطلع برّه السور، فالضارب وكل اللي على القواعد يسجلوا.

A home run with the bases loaded: four runs.

هوم ران والقواعد مليانة = 4 نقط بضربة واحدة.

A caught fly deep enough to score a runner from third.

ضربة عالية بتتمسك بس عميقة كفاية إن جرّاي من التالتة يسجل.

A soft tap to advance a runner or beat the throw for a hit.

ضربة خفيفة بتلمس بيها الكورة برفق من غير سوينج عشان تقدّم جرّاي.

Hits divided by at-bats. .300 is excellent, .250 average.

الضربات الناجحة ÷ الـat-bats. 300. ممتاز، 250. متوسط.

How often a hitter reaches base; counts hits, walks, HBP.

نسبة وصول اللاعب للقاعدة (ضربات + walks + ضرب بالكورة). أهم من الـAVG.

Total bases per at-bat; measures power.

إجمالي القواعد ÷ الـat-bats، بتقيس القوة.

OBP plus SLG; a fast all-in-one hitter summary. .850 is strong.

الـOBP + الـSLG، ملخص سريع للضارب. 850. قوي.

The group of relief pitchers, and the area where they warm up.

مجموعة الرماة البدلاء (الريليف)، وكمان المكان اللي بيسخنوا فيه.

Earned runs allowed per nine innings. 2.50 excellent, 4.50+ poor.

متوسط النقط المستحقة لكل 9 أشواط. 2.50 ممتاز، 3.50 متوسط، 4.50+ ضعيف.

Walks plus hits per inning. ~1.10 excellent, 1.50 trouble.

الـwalks + الضربات لكل شوط. 1.10 ممتاز، 1.50 مشكلة.

Fielding-independent pitching; the pitcher's true skill, luck-stripped.

تقييم الرامي بعيد عن الدفاع والحظ، بيوريك مهارته الحقيقية.

A starter going 6+ innings with 3 or fewer earned runs.

الرامي البادئ يلعب 6 أشواط+ بـ 3 نقط مستحقة أو أقل.

Awarded to a reliever who finishes a close win under set rules.

بتتحسب للرامي اللي يقفل فوز قريب تحت شروط معينة.

The relief pitcher who pitches the final inning of a close win.

An out made by holding the ball on a base a runner must advance to.

آوت بإن المدافع يمسك الكورة ويدوس على القاعدة اللي الجرّاي مجبر يروحلها.

Touching a runner who is off a base with the ball.

المدافع يلمس الجرّاي بالكورة وهو برّه القاعدة.

Two outs recorded on one play; the rally-killer.

آوتين في لعبة واحدة، ودي أسوأ حاجة للمهاجم.

A misplay by a fielder that lets a batter or runner advance.

غلطة من المدافع بتخلي الضارب أو الجرّاي يتقدّم.

The pitcher and catcher together.

الرامي والكاتشر مع بعض، همّا اللي في كل رمية.

The infielder between second and third; often the best defender.

مدافع الوسط بين التانية والتالتة، غالباً أحسن مدافع.

Nickname for third base, where hard-hit balls arrive fast.

اسم الدلع للقاعدة التالتة، لأن الكور بتيجيلها بسرعة جامدة.

Weighted on-base average; each outcome gets its real run value.

متوسط وصول موزون، كل نوع وصول بياخد قيمته الحقيقية.

Park- and league-adjusted offense; 100 is average, 140 is 40% better.

هجوم معدّل حسب الملعب والعصر؛ 100 متوسط، 140 يعني أحسن بـ 40%.

Wins Above Replacement; total value in wins vs a replacement player. 5 = All-Star.
